Film Title Survey Results and Response

We have collected our results from our SurveyMonkey. Our respondents have helped us choose our film title. Four of our film titles were popular with our respondents;
Press Play
My Name is Cain
Him
Silence to Kill

so we decided to choose one of them that we liked the most and that suited our synopsis the best.

Horror Make Up Practise - Open Cuts

For the open cuts, I went to a fancy dress shop to buy derma wax. Durma Wax is wax that you are able to mould very easily and are able to put onto skin without any harm. To create the open cut, i got a small amount of wax, but you get any amount depending on the size of the cut, and moulded it into a sausage shape and then pat it down gently onto the back of my hand. I then smoothed the sides of the wax so it blended into my skin. I used a plastic knife to 'cut open' the wax.
To create the blood i used various items to make it look realistic. To get the vibrant red, I used a lipstick and a lip brush. To make it darker, I used matt red and brown eye-shadow.

Horror Make-Up Practise - Scar

For our killer we wanted to give him a distinct feature, and we all agreed on the idea of a scar. I looked up on YouTube on how to create a scar and came across a very simple tutorial on how to create a scar using two to three products. I went to a fancy dress shop to get rigid collodion.

Rigid Collodion is used by many big film artist to create scars such as Heath Ledgers scar when he played the character 'The Joker' from Dark Knight. To help give the scar depth and dimension, I used a natural coloured lip liner and smudged it a little bit so line didn't look to bold. To make a little more realistic, I also used eye-shadow. I used matt brown, red and purple.

Research - Horror Make-up

For our killer we would like to give him a scar as it would show a convention of traditional hirror killers, they either have a mask of disfigurment on their face, I have looked at a few tutorial on youtube looking a horror make-up that we will be able to do under a budget.
As well as scars, I have also looked at other make-up such as cuts, open wounds and strangle marks.

Research - Script Format

Before wirting my section of the script (opening) I have done some research into the format, how its layed out. I have learnt that you have to put every single detail into a script. Its almost like wiritng a story, but just a different layout.

Group Planning - DSLR:Low lighting

Media Studies A2 Here a memeber of my group has done research in DSLR and how to shoot in low lighting areas. This will be useful for all of us, especially as natural daylight does not last all day, this will help us learn how to shoot in low lighting areas.

Killer blog posts Response

What have I learnt from research??

- I have learnt is that each killer has their own;

  • unique way of murdering their victims
  • a weapon that tends to be an everyday object
  • have a disfigurement and/or mask
  • their costumes are quite plain
  • their costumes use conventional colours to horror - most typical red and black
My group would like to reinforce these observations as they will show our understanding of horror killers.

Motivation - Post Draumatic Burned Alive Disorder

Research - Killer Backstory - Chucky

Motivation - Pinocchio Syndrome

Group Planning - ISO

Media Studies A2 A member of my group also looked into ISO which is sensitivity of the camera , this information will come in useful for all members of my group when filming our trailer.

Group Planning - Trailer Structure

Our group has had a discussion about what shots and footage that will be in our trailer and we have followed the trailer structure;

Opening - Starts with the killers backstory --> His parents teaching him not to sin

Build up - In school  at the back of a classroom , in lesson. - Montage of him in school being ignored and unnoticed.

Problem - Carves attention because he never gets any - Popular girl its all the attention and he looks over and is ticking people off a list, who gets the most attention and planning to kill them.

Events - Begins next victim is restricted, with dead classmates around him. As the camera pans closer to the victim, the victim will look up and gasp - it then finishes with the title and credits.

Group Planning - Depth of Field

Media Studies A2: Depth of Field A member of my group has done research into depth of field, this will be beneficial to our group when we each have a turn in recoding our trailer.

Film Title Survey

Had a discussion with my group and we were not able to settle on a film title that we all liked so I therefore put all our ideas into a survey and letting the respondants rank the titles from 1 being their favourite and 11 being their least favourite. To do this I have used a survey software called Survey Monkey. This software will allow our results to be collected into a graph, making it easy to understand and present our in a clear matter. Film Title BrainStorm

I read our film synopsis thouroughly and had a go at brainstorming some Film Title Ideas. From research, I have learnt that most horror film titles are a maximum of four words and they relate to a specific time of year or date. I decide to reinforce the convention of using a maximum of four words and decided against the time titles because our film is not based of around a significant time to the killer also including titles that other memebers of my group came up with.
